Buying a property can be a daunting task, especially if you haven't done it before.

Step 1

How much can I borrow?

The first step in the buying process is working out how much you can borrow, in order to decide which types of property and area are within your budget.

Step 2

Where do I buy?

Buying a property is the largest investment you are ever likely to make. It’s important that you ask yourself what it is that’s important to you?

It could be the location for work, number of bedrooms or even the potential for extending or improving the property in the future.

Once you have decided what’s important you can speak with a local estate agent in your area and they will help search for property for sale and find you the ideal home.

Step 3

Live To Market

Register with your local agent. Most estate agents will contact there registered buyers in advance of marketing online.

Contact local estate agents telling them what you are looking for in terms of accommodation, price and location.

Its important they have your email and mobile number so that they can contact you as soon as they are instructed to sell a property.


Step 4


When negotiating the purchase of your property always make it clear what you expect to be included within the purchase price such as carpets or curtains, and when making an offer always back up verbal presentation of this with an e-mail.

Attach your mortgage agreement in principal and give details of what timescales you would like to work towards. If you have a chain you can provide this, or the details of your estate agent.

Step 5

Sales Progression

If you are buying with Abode you will benefit from a dedicated sales progression team, as well as a buyers app.

However most estate agents do not offer this service and it is advisable to stay in contact with your solicitor throughout the conveyancing process.

Step 6

Moving Day

In advance of the date you are moving and advisor from Abode will contact you to arrange access and key handover. This can be done after completion and will usually take place at the property or within our offices.

When buying a new home, we would recommend that the locks are changed and that you contact all utility providers immediately. Recording the up to date meter readings.
